18 Cunninghame Ramblers made their way to Darvel to do a 10 mile 'B+' walk out to Loudoun Hill, up it and back along a disused railway line. The weather was fine after a short shower at the start of the walk. 11 made the ascent up to the trig point on top of Loudoun Hill and enjoyed the impressive views of the surrounding area, even the Arran hills were visible. I took over the leaders duties for the love of my life as she was unavailable. Very enjoyable walk and thankfully not as muddy as expected.

Sea Kayaking Scotland - The Garvellachs.

Well, again, it wasn't my idea, and I must admit, there is no way, that I would have done this trip alone, in that wind. having said that, it all turned out good. We stayed overnight, n.r Oban, after sampling the delights of the Curry house, at Matt's request. Matt and Alan had to drag me in there........kicking and screaming. The plan was, meet up at Croabh Haven, and do the Garvellachs from there, meeting Ross, and Neil, there. For some reason, we ended up at Easdale again, but it all worked out in the end. We put the boats in, and it was immediately apparrent, that Ross, and Neil were "Proppa Kayakers" ,and it didn't take long to realise, that they were powered by 'Duracell' and I had them cheap and nasty Chinese batteries fitted. I just couldn't keep up........all day. The Garvellachs are 4.5 miles from Easdale, and outward, we were downtide, and had assistance from the blustery wind. I was not looking forward to the return, as it would be battling that wind, and I'd had a trying day the day before. But, the weather being what it is, when we got out there it was LESS windy than ashore at Easdale? Work that one out. Approx. halfway, there are some rocks that provided perfect respite, from the wind. On to the Garvellachs, and they provide lovely, easy on the eye scenery. I, personally, didn't appreciate it so much, whilst there, as I was dreading that slog into the wind, going back. We, found a suitable, beach for lunch, and before I had popped my spraydeck, certain members of our party had popped cans of lager....ha ha. The return journey was blustery, but nowhere near as bad as I thought, in fact in places, the wind abated considerably, but approaching Easdale, seemed to pick up again? strange indeed. I explored one of many drowned slate quarries here, then observed the boys doing rolling practice, in the harbour. We had a meal in the boozer there, said our goddbyes to Ross, and Neil, then Alan decided to go, leaving just Me and Matt. We enjoyed a beer, watching the sunset over Mull...............then Alan re-appeared, ha ha. He just couldn't keep away, and when you see the next trip, you will see it was one of his better decisions. The Music was all my own work again, the boys were discussing various Rock Groups, so I thought I'd go a bit heavier, than usual. It was, to mask the hideous wind noise as well, that plagued me for the first 2 days. A big thanks to Ross and Neil, who were not only great, inspirational Kayakers, but good company as well, and Neil was like a mobile cake shop, we were all given a ration of scones, and cakes. Neil, and Ross, you're welcome anytime.
