I wrote this a few weeks ago. Inspired by the terrible Highland Clearances and by my own Great Great Great Great Granny, who stood up to the Duke of Sutherland at the very start of the Highland Clearances. So many families were not as fortunate as we were, and suffered a much worse fate. Times have not changed. This is happening all over the world even today.
I am also inspired by the current generations of crofters. There seems to be a barrier, not allowing the young ones to get in - which is threatening the whole existance of crofting.
Sensible and more favourable rules need to come from the Scottish Government, to help aspiring young crofters stay living up in the highlands and work on the land. We need less red tape, and accesable funding to get things going again, to a sustainable level.
Lets not see Crofting as a thing of the past.
